Description
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is an organization that focuses on bringing opportunities to OU students. While we have an emphasis on helping students of Hispanic heritage, we welcome anyone who feels like they need a community to help them form connections, gain professional skills and have access to companies and opportunities that will kickstart their careers. Through SHPE, we offer OU students the ability to connect with recruiters, attend conferences and conventions with career fairs and keep our members informed of any potential opportunities. It’s important to prepare our members to take advantage of career opportunities, which is why we also provide workshops on writing resumes, building attractive LinkedIn profiles and other important skills. These are all opportunities that will lead to OU students being more successful and in return enrich the OU community.

These funds will be used primarily to fund general body meetings, social gatherings to help the continued growth of the organization and sponsorships for our members to provide housing and travel costs associated with attending both the regional SHPE conference and the SHPE national convention.
The importance of convention sponsorships
The SHPE national convention is a four-day gathering of over 10,000 Hispanic engineering students where more than 300 companies are looking for interns as well as full-time employees. This is an unrivaled opportunity to jumpstart our students’ careers. The larger our presence at this convention, the more we can expand our engineering network at the University of Oklahoma. Meanwhile, our regional SHPE conference is a smaller gathering compared to SHPE’s national convention, but there are still many ways for our students to network, gain insights and expand their career prospects with companies that are closer to home.
